Hitting The Right Marks: New Nets GM Says Prokhorov Sold Him On The Position

New Nets GM Sean Marks detailed what attracted him to the position, saying he is "always up for a challenge." Appearing on a podcast with The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, Marks said, "What stuck out to me was when ownership sat there and said, ‘Look, we’re committed to turning this around, we’re committed to winning. We’re going to make these changes and we want this person, the GM, to lead that ship.’ That’s all I needed to hear.” Marks said he wants Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov "involved" with the rebuilding process, but added, "I also want him to be able to trust myself and the staff that are going to be here in making those right decisions." Marks: "I realize that trust is earned and so forth. But it was important for me to discuss with him the collaboration and the partnership that was going to be needed, not only between he and I, but myself and whoever the next coach is.” Marks acknowledged the team is "starting from ground zero" in terms of rebuilding the team. Wojnarowski interjected and said, “Maybe even a little lower, without (draft) picks.” Marks laughingly replied, “Let’s not bring all that up." But he added, "We get to build something, and the people that are brought in are the ones that are going to be driving that culture.” Marks said with limited draft picks available to him over the next few years, “we’re going to have to be open to everything." Marks: "One of the great things about what’s happening here is the purchase of the D-League team. That’s where we’re going to be really strong and try to develop, try to find guys within our own system.” He added international scouting will be a "big, big part of that” ("The Vertical Podcast with Woj," SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 2/24).
