Poll Shows Increased Support From L.A. County Residents For Bid To Host '24 Games

Results of a poll conducted by the Center for the Study of L.A. at Loyola Marymount Univ. shows that more than 85% of L.A. County residents "support to some degree the region hosting" the '24 Games, according to Scott Reid of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. Additionally, 54.4% of the poll's more than 2,400 respondents said they “strongly supported” L.A. hosting a third Olympic Games, while 30.8% said they “somewhat supported” the bid. The poll found that 5.5% "somewhat opposed the Games" with 5.8% saying that they strongly opposed the Olympics and 3.5% saying "they did not have an opinion." The bid for '24 "has stronger support within the minority communities." Fewer than half (49.1%) of white respondents said that they "strongly supported the Games" compared to 64.4% of African Americans, 57.7% of Asian Americans and 55.2% of Hispanics (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 2/24). USA TODAY's Rachel Axon noted the poll is the "first independent one conducted but supports polling" by the USOC in August that "found that 81% of residents supported the bid." The survey, which was conducted via phone interviews, used a sampling of respondents that "represent demographics of the county." It has a margin of error of +/- 3% (USATODAY.com, 2/23).
