Ronda Rousey Files Trademark For "FTA," Her Expletive-Marked Catchphrase

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has "filed for five trademarks to FTA," which stands for "F@#! Them All," according to ESPN's Darren Rovell (TWITTER.com, 2/16). FOXSPORTS.com's Damon Martin noted Rousey has "already filed trademarks for several phrases including the words 'Rowdy Ronda Rousey' and her catchphrase 'do nothing b--ch.'" Martin: "It seems with her new trademark that Rousey is ready to revolt against anybody who has a bad word to say as she ignores the naysayers and gets ready to reclaim her throne as top women's fighter in the world later this year" (FOXSPORTS.com, 2/16). In DC, Des Bieler added the fact that Rousey is "seeking to trademark the phrase 'FTA' indicates that, even if she is not in the most positive mindset possible, she certainly does not lack for motivation" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/16). However, ESPN's Dan Le Batard said, "If you’re going to be on ‘Ellen’ (Tuesday) weeping about how suicidal you were and engendering compassion and sympathy for that, this is not the way to go on trademarks immediately after that. The timing on that doesn’t sound real great.” ESPN's Bomani Jones added, "She can do this if we decide that we're going to let her get away with it. Chances are the media, we’re going to let her get away with it, because interest in that sport really revolves around her. She is the hero in every way, so we’re going to allow her to be the badass that can trademark ‘f them all’ and then we’re going to let her cry on the couch and show the tender side. It will all be part of a total narrative of Ronda Rousey, if that's what you want it to be.” ESPN's Gonzalo Le Batard: "Holly Holm should trademark the phrase saying, ‘I broke her face’” (“Highly Questionable,” ESPN, 2/17).
