Corporate Side Of L.A. Games Would Take Place In Many Downtown Venues

If L.A. wins the '24 Games, the corporate side of the event would largely unfold in downtown venues familiar to sports business veterans. In the updated bid book published late last night, LA 2024 said it intends to use the JW Marriott and the adjacent Ritz Carlton in the L.A. Live complex to house the “Olympic Family” for three weeks or more. The “family" includes members of the IOC, international sport federation execs, major sponsors and others. The hotels also would likely host a slew of meetings and conferences related to the Games, planned for July 19-Aug. 4. "The prime location of these properties, in the middle (and inside the secured perimeter) of L.A. Live, is surrounded by Games-time action, and guarantees an exceptional Games-time experience for the Olympic family,” the bid book claims. Sponsor activation would center around Figueroa Street, a major thoroughfare connecting the L.A. Live/Staples Center area to the USC campus, where most of the Games’ most desirable ticketed events are planned. Figueroa Way will be dubbed “Olympic Way,” and it will be a free-to-attend, pedestrian-only plaza, giving sponsors a place to reach Olympic ticket holders and the general public. "The Olympic Way will be enhanced with a range of fan experience areas, international food offerings from LA’s top chefs, entertainment zones and major festival sites in the key clusters, each showcasing sport and cultural events,” organizers wrote in the bid documents. L.A. is counting on domestic sponsorship sales to raise nearly $1.44B.
