DC United Bringing Back Johnson For TV Play-By-Play, With New Analyst To Be Hired

Johnson has been the voice of DC United
since the club made its debut in '96
Dave Johnson, who "has been the broadcast voice" of DC United since the club's debut in '96, "seems almost certain to return for a 21st season," according to Steven Goff of the WASHINGTON POST. While a deal with Johnson "is in the works," the club "is apparently preparing to hire a new color commentator." Former DC United MF Santino Quaranta "filled the role the past two seasons." It remains unclear with whom Johnson "will be working." DC United said that it is "close to hiring an analyst." Meanwhile, the club in December entered into an agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns WJLA-ABC and NewsChannel 8. All DC United matches that "are not part of MLS's national TV programming will appear on one of those two local outlets." The club's schedule "shows five games" on WJLA-ABC and nine on NewsChannel 8 (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/11).
