Media Notes

USA TODAY's Chris Korman writes a new set for ESPN's "Mike & Mike" will make the show "look like more than just a radio show on camera." ESPN hopes the new set "will create a more sophisticated look using magazine-style graphics and a talk show-like setting for guests." The set also "allows for display of social media elements and for the hosts to call up their own video." It is a "departure from the bare-bones nature of the previous set." But designing graphics "takes time, and that requires planning out segments." Following a "stricter timeline might hurt the spontaneity of the show." Hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic "know each other so well that there's little danger in letting them stray" (USA TODAY, 2/10).

CALLING ALL ANGELS: The L.A. Times has hired Orange County Register Angels and Dodgers reporter Pedro Moura as the paper's Angels beat writer, "taking the baton" from Mike DiGiovanna, whose run covering the team "has spanned 20 years." DiGiovanna "will continue to contribute" to the paper's coverage of the Dodgers and Angels, as well as complement coverage of the Rams "once the NFL season starts" (LATIMES.com, 2/5).
