Big 12 Presidents Back Bowlsby For Decisions On Expansion, Title Game, TV Net

The "biggest news" Friday from the Big 12 BOD meeting was that Kansas State President and BOD Chair Kirk Schulz said that the schools "will defer to commissioner Bob Bowlsby so the conference is speaking with a single voice,'" according to Chuck Carlton of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Oklahoma President David Boren "has called for expansion, a title game and a league network several times in the last month." He "wasn't the only loud voice going off-script." West Virginia President Gordon Gee "backed expansion as well." Schulz: "We're at a point we decided when we have the family arguments, we're going to do it at home with the door shut. When we all stand out on the front porch and wave the flag, we'll all be in the same place" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/6). Schulz said that the school presidents "each had an opportunity Friday to speak their mind." Bowlsby called it "a lot of smart people sitting in a room laying their cards on the table and talking about what will make the conference stronger going forward." USA TODAY's George Schroeder noted "neither Bowlsby nor Schulz would be specific." Expansion "appears to remain highly unlikely, at least in the short term." It is unclear if a conference championship game or conference network "have gained much traction, either" (USATODAY.com, 2/5). In Tulsa, John Hoover asked, "Did Boren’s comments at least stimulate Friday’s discussion?" Schulz said, “I believe we’re on the same pace we would have been regardless of any CEO making any comments" (TULSAWORLD.com, 2/5).
