Going Off The Grid: Beanpot Alums Share Favorite Moments, Top Boston Restaurants

"Going Off The Grid" is a weekly survey of sports execs and personalities offering their thoughts on a handful of pressing (and trivial) issues in sports and pop culture. This week, as the annual Beanpot collegiate hockey tournament got under way Monday night in Boston, we polled an alum from each participating school on their favorite Beanpot moment, ideal Winter Classic venue.

  • Predators President of Hockey Operations & GM David Poile (Northeastern)
    – Asked what the top issue facing the NHL is, said, "I didn't have anything. I think the game is in good shape."
  • Capitals Assistant GM & Dir of Legal Affairs Don Fishman (Harvard)
    – Wishes the NHL had bands perform during games, similar to college.
  •  ESPN Radio 98.7 N.Y.'s Rick DiPietro (Boston Univ.)
    – His best hockey memory was representing the U.S. on the '06 Olympic team.
  • Penguins Assistant GM Bill Guerin (Boston College)
    – A former RW, his favorite hockey expression: "I'm like 7-Eleven: always open!"
