Sports Illustrated Releasing New Mobile App That Features Cleaner Menu Of Offerings

SI has released a new mobile app, seeking to fill a large gap in its digital product suite. After previously focusing its energies in mobile to a wireless version of SI.com, the new SI app seeks to provide a clean, straightforward menu of offerings. The app features the ability to tag specific SI writers in addition to teams and sports and receive notifications of newly posted content, the ability to watch videos while scrolling for other content and functionality to pin specific scores in progress and keep a score bug surfaced within the application. A feature called The 10 Spot will highlight an editorially curated section of top content. “This was definitely a hole in our repertoire and we wanted to fill that the right way,” SI Group Editor Paul Fichtenbaum said of the new app. “Simple is better and we very consciously wanted something that wasn’t cluttered and functioned very cleanly and easily, and highlights our unique voice. And we know fans want more customization than ever, and this will have that, too.” The SI app will also filter in content from Peter King’s football site The MMQB.
