NFL CMO Dawn Hudson Hoping Women's Summit Makes Positive Impact On Society

A year ago, NFL CMO Dawn Hudson was four months into her new job and struggling with the integrity questions raised by Deflategate and the fallout from domestic abuse cases involving players such as Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. Heading into her second Super Bowl, Hudson has organized a two-day-long women's summit during Super Bowl Week, which will include Commissioner Roger Goodell, Condoleezza Rice, Serena Williams and Billie Jean King. "Maybe what last season taught us is the power of the NFL to make a difference," said Hudson. "So we're trying to get different kinds of future-focused conversations going and figure out a way we can make a difference." Hudson said the "Women's Summit In the Huddle" will cover the issues surrounding teenage girls and sports participation. Accordingly, all the speakers will be former high-school athletes at minimum. "Title IX has made a big difference,’’ she said, “but 60% of (high school) girls still aren't playing sports and that’s a higher rate than boys.” As for the objectives of the summit, which will have an audience of around 125 people: “We want to raise awareness about the importance of sports for teenage girls to provide more opportunities, and hopefully get to raising funds for that. And we want to get dads involved on behalf of their daughters."
