NFL Network on Friday night will replay NFL Films' reconstruction of Super Bowl I "without interruptions for analysis or ancillary programming," according to Richard Sandomir of the N.Y. TIMES. The decision comes after a "negative reaction to the way it presented" the broadcast this past Friday, which included a "panel talking during the action." NFL Net's three-hour special last Friday night included "pregame, halftime and postgame shows and as many as seven commentators talking over the original NBC radio call by Jim Simpson and George Ratterman" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/19). PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Michael David Smith noted the 90-minute broadcast, which will air at 8:00pm ET Friday, will have an "introduction from Chris Rose in the NFL Network studio, but after that it will be the game itself, with no commentary other than the original NBC Sports radio broadcast." That is a "great decision" by the net, as fans "really want to see and hear ... the sights and sounds just as they were shown half a century ago" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 1/18).
