The Stars "announced a five-year contract extension" for GM JIM NILL. The deal "keeps Nill under contract" through the '22-23 season (ESPN.com, 1/8). Nill is "in the third year of a five-year deal." The extension is a "seven-year vote of confidence" that says Owner TOM GAGLARDI "has seen plenty of progress in Nill's first 2 1/2 years with the franchise." Nill is "praised as much for his personality as his personnel moves." While he has "added pieces and made trades with the financial backing of the Gaglardi family, he also has made the Stars a family of their own." He has "established an organization in his own image that values hard work" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/9).

STAYING IN THE NEST: Falcons GM THOMAS DIMITROFF "has been retained by the team" (AJC.com, 1/8). Falcons Owner ARTHUR BLANK said that Assistant GM SCOTT PIOLI "will remain to assist Dimitroff." Blank added that changes "will be made to the pro personnel and college scouting department" (ESPN.com, 1/8).

MOVING ON: CBS Radio Chicago Senior VP & Marketing Manager ROD ZIMMERMAN and VP & Dir of Sales MARK DAY have been “ousted.” Zimmerman was a 38-year veteran of the company, and during his tenure, CBS Radio “signed long-term deals for broadcast rights” to the Cubs and Bears (ROBERTFEDER.com, 1/7)
