Royal Purple Declines To Renew Sponsorship Deal For Las Vegas Bowl After Three Years

Motor oil company Royal Purple has "decided to not renew its deal" to title sponsor the Las Vegas Bowl at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium, according to Alan Snel of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Royal Purple signed the three-year deal in '12 to "increase its brand awareness in Western markets." Royal Purple is based in Porter, Texas, near Houston, and originally "wanted to be a title sponsor of a college bowl game" in that area. But another sponsor "beat Royal Purple to that game," so it "chose the Las Vegas Bowl." Bowl Exec Dir John Saccenti was informed "a few days after the Dec. 19 Las Vegas game" that Royal Purple would not renew. The title sponsorship deal is valued at $1-2M annually. Saccenti "met with five companies in the past few weeks and plans to mine" execs attending CES in Las Vegas. He also wants to "talk with locally based companies and explore ways of growing the game together with a local brand" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 1/8). Auto repair chain Maaco sponsored the Las Vegas Bowl from '09-12, while electronics brand Pioneer held tile sponsorship from '04-08 (THE DAILY).
