Cubs End Four-Year Streak Of Dwindling Fan Engagement; Blackhawks Stay Steady

The Cubs "ended a four-year streak of dwindling fan engagement" and the Blackhawks "maintained their second-place spot," according to the latest release of Nielsen Scarborough's fan base data cited by Danny Ecker of CRAIN'S CHICAGO BUSINESS. Surveys of nearly 3,700 Chicago-area residents showed that nearly half of respondents "watched, listened to or attended a Blackhawks game during the year ended Aug. 30." That is the second straight year the Blackhawks' percentage "was higher than that of the Bulls, Cubs and White Sox," thanks to a 28% "surge in fan engagement last year." Only the Bears ranked higher with 58% of respondents -- "tied for the team's lowest mark" since '10 (CHICAGOBUSINESS.com, 12/14).

PERCENTAGE OF CHICAGOANS WHO WATCHED, ATTENDED OR LISTENED
TO A GAME OVER THE PAST YEAR
