NHL Franchise Notes: Coyotes Have Met With Veteran's Memorial Coliseum Execs

ARIZONASPORTS.com's Craig Morgan reported the Coyotes have "met at least twice with officials from Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum about playing there on a temporary basis after their arena lease and management agreement with the City of Glendale expires" in '17. Among those who "attended the meetings" were Coyotes President & CEO Anthony LeBlanc, "outside consultants" including Tipping Point Sports CEO Mitchell Ziets and team construction partners. Arizona Exposition & State Fair Assistant Exec Dir of Entertainment & Event Solutions Jen Yee said that the party "toured the coliseum on both occasions" (ARIZONASPORTS.com, 12/9).

I LOVE THE '80S: In N.Y., Pat Leonard notes the Oilers and the city of Edmonton are honoring Rangers President of Hockey Operations Glen Sather with "two days of grand, better-late-than-never festivities leading up to a banner raising ceremony" Friday night at Rexall Place before the Rangers take on his former club. Sather calls the honor "humbling" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/11). Sather said, “The banner hanging -- and I call it the hanging -- is something that I certainly didn’t even think about ever happening. Putting the players’ names in the rafters, I can understand that. But to have mine there, that was pretty shocking to me when they called me and asked me this summer" (EDMONTON SUN, 12/11).

THE SALUTE: The Devils and Prudential Center will hold a contest offering a limited number of fans the opportunity to place their favorite piece of Martin Brodeur memorabilia in the statue of the goaltender that will stand on Championship Plaza. The statue is named "The Salute" after the iconic photo of Brodeur holding his stick in the air at his last game. Five winners will be selected and invited to be a part of the special ceremony on Feb. 8 at Prudential Center. The statue is currently being built by renowned sculptor Jon Krawczyk (Devils).
