Greg Maffei Reiterates Liberty Media Has No Plans To Sell Braves

Liberty Media President & CEO Greg Maffei reiterated the company has "no plan to sell" the Braves, and the creation of a new tracking stock likely "will not change the fact that it’s probably unattractive for us to sell that." Appearing on Bloomberg TV, Maffei said, "The value of the team has grown over time. The value of all baseball teams has grown, but we’ve been particularly lucky. The management of the Braves has done a great job with the new stadium, with the new TV contract, so I don’t think that is right." He said of the value media brings to the Braves, “Baseball is an entertainment product and it is about the media business in the sense that it has viewers, it has people who attend, it has sponsorship, it looks a lot like other media businesses, no doubt.” Maffei said of declining MLB viewership, “Baseball has done a great job in a lot of areas, including around the digital arena. Major League Baseball Advanced Media ... is the most advanced and has the most digital viewership of anybody out there, so I think baseball’s pretty healthy actually” (“Bloomberg Markets,” Bloomberg TV, 12/9).
