New technology from startup ventures is transforming the sports industry. The mission of this series will be to introduce startup companies in the sports technology space to a broader audience and allow Founders of promising new ventures to tell their story.

Company: BodyCap

CEO: Sébastien Moussay

Company Headquarters: Caen, France

Company Introduction. What do you do?

BodyCap develops miniature wireless electronic sensors and monitoring solutions.

Specializing in wearable connected devices for effort management and physiological data surveillance, its innovative high-tech products are used in sport performance enhancement, medical research and development and to monitor people in extreme environments.

Fabrice Verjus, doctor of electronics and Sébastien Moussay, doctor of sports science, founded BodyCap in 2011. The company is based in Caen, France and has 19 employees.

1. What is your elevator pitch?

e-Celsius Performance is an ingestible pill that continuously monitors the user’s core temperature, helping to optimize sporting performance.

2. Problem & Solution

To contribute to sporting performance enhancement, medical staff needs exhaustive record of physiological parameters during effort. But the team needs to preserve athlete’s mobility.

We have identified an unfulfilled need for temperature and we propose a solution: Once the pill is ingested, the sportsperson has complete freedom of movement, as there is no requirement to wear a monitor.  The pill stores measurements for up to 16 hours when away from the monitor. This data is then wirelessly transmitted once the pill is back within the 3-meter range.

3. Market – your target market and the overall market

Professional sports such as cycling, rugby and soccer lead the way, due to the nature of these sports and the financial stakes. In Europe, there are at least 100 soccer clubs that could have an interest in this technology.

In the United States we are targeting additional sports like football, volleyball and hockey.

The pill is available for sales in Europe and in the USA.

4. Business Model – how do you make money?

We are selling products directly or through distribution.

We are also developing and industrialising products for key companies in health sector.

5. Management Team

Fabrice Verjus , President

Sebastien Moussay, CEO

Isabelle Lauret, marketing and business development director

6. What else do you want the audience to know about your venture?

Our board is made of doctors in Science and Medicine, our strategy is to develop high quality products for state to the art applications.
