Viacom and CBS Exec Chair SUMNER REDSTONE "won’t have to submit to a battery of medical tests to determine his mental competence -- at least for now." An L.A. County Superior Court judge yesterday "denied a request by Redstone's former girlfriend, MANUELA HERZER, to speed up the legal process to determine whether Redstone is mentally fit to make decisions about his health." The case is being "closely watched because of its potential ramifications on Viacom and CBS" (LATIMES.com, 11/30).

IN MEMORY: BILL JOHNSON, a longtime play-by-play voice for several Portland-area teams, including the Univ. of Portland and Linfield College, "passed away Sunday from heart failure" at the age of 71 (Portland OREGONIAN, 12/1).
