Ravens Paid Univ. Of Maryland Millions To Move Football Games To M&T Bank Stadium

The Ravens paid the Univ. of Maryland athletics department $6.75M to "host two of the university’s football games at M&T Bank Stadium over the past three seasons," according to Timothy Sandoval of the BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL. UMD was paid $3.5M for its game against West Virginia on Sept. 21, 2013, and $3.25M for its game against Penn State on Oct. 24 of this year. Both were UMD "home games the school moved from the smaller, 54,000-seat Byrd Stadium in College Park." The Ravens "received all ticket, concessions and parking revenue for the games." The Ravens also received 25% of revenue "from the sale of gameday programs." UMD "received 3,000 complimentary tickets for the West Virginia game, and 5,000 for the Penn State game." The school also "received four complimentary suites for each game." Ravens President Dick Cass said that the team is "always looking to find profitable events to host at the 71,000-seat stadium." Cass "declined to disclose whether the West Virginia and Penn State games were profitable." However, he noted that both games "were well attended." Cass added that the Ravens "plan to discuss hosting more football games at M&T with Maryland, but there are no official plans to hold future games of yet" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/30).
