S.F. Ditches Plan To Shut Down Cable Cars As Part Of Super Bowl Festivities

The Super Bowl 50 Host Committee and city of S.F. have "ditched a proposed plan" to shut down cable car service on the roughly two blocks where "festivities are planned," according to Emily Green of the S.F. CHRONICLE.  About a dozen cable car lines "would have been affected." S.F. Mayor Ed Lee's Dir of Communications Christine Falvey said, "The footprint of the event will be reconfigured to accommodate Super Bowl City." Meanwhile, a hearing will be held Dec. 7 on Super Bowl planning that will "include concerns about security after the terrorist attacks in Paris last week" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/19).

FEELING MINNESOTA: In Minneapolis, Nick Halter notes Super Bowl LII Host Committee CEO Maureen Bausch is "dreaming up big plans" for the 10 days leading up to the '18 game. Bausch will coordinate "regular winter events to coincide with Super Bowl festivities, including the City of Lakes Loppet, St. Paul Winter Carnival and Red Bull Crashed Ice." There also will be "some type of event that would involve" the USOC. St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Kramer said that he "inquired with the USOC about holding some type of Olympics-related event" there. Halter notes both the Super Bowl and '18 PyeongChang Games are being broadcast by NBC. Meanwhile, Super Bowl Media Day is "planned for Xcel Energy Center." The NFL Experience would "open in the Minneapolis Convention Center 10 days before the Super Bowl" (MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL BUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/13 issue).
