Golfer Adam Scott indicated that representing Australia at the '16 Rio Games was "not a priority for him," adding that the gap the Olympic tournament created in the world golf calendar "would give him some good time with his family," according to Russell Gould of the Melbourne HERALD SUN. He said that he "wasn't against golf being in the Olympics but was adamant organisers had missed a chance to 'do something special' by making it a 72-hole strokeplay event." Scott: "I've been pretty open and outspoken that it's not really a priority of my scheduling next year. I'll still base my schedule around the majors and if the Olympics fits in, then it does. ... I'm just not sure that they have got it quite [dialed] in with the format and might have missed an opportunity there to do something pretty special for golf." He said that a "mixed team event could have been something for organisers to think about so that the Olympic golf event wasn't 'just another tournament'" (Melbourne HERALD SUN, 11/18). Scott: "I'm not really sure how just having another golf tournament is really going to enhance the game or grow the game any more than any other tournament just because it's the Olympics. With the field criteria, it doesn't necessarily get the strongest field in the game either" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 11/19). IOC officials have indicated that it is "possible a team event could be added to the golf program" for the '20 Tokyo Games (AP, 11/18).
