Blue Jays Bump Ticket Prices 10% On Average; Second Straight Season Fans See Increase

The Blue Jays yesterday announced that they are "increasing ticket prices for the second straight season, with an average bump" of about 10% across the board, according to Brendan Kennedy of the TORONTO STAR. Prices for regular games "will increase $3 to $6 [all figures C] per ticket, depending on the location, while premium tickets will go up by $4 to $10 per seat." The Ballpark Pass, which "offered a 500-level ticket for nearly every home game for less than $100, will no longer be available." The "heavily discounted pass was in the process of being phased out, so its cancellation is no surprise." Ticket prices "also went up last year, increases ranging from" 10-40%, "after four seasons in which they remained flat." After "selling out 20 of their final 21 home games following the trade deadline, Jays attendance increased" 18% from '14, or "more than 5,100 per game." The team said that tickets in the 500 level "are still available for less than $20," while the 50% discount for children on Jr. Jays Saturdays "will continue" (TORONTO STAR, 11/18).

COST FACTOR: In Toronto, Don Peat notes the city yesterday "finally came out ... with the total cost to screen" the Blue Jays’ '15 playoff games in Nathan Phillips Square. City officials "estimated 10,000-15,000 people turned out to watch the games in the square" at a cost to taxpayers of "almost $78,000" (TORONTO SUN, 11/18).
