Marketplace Roundup

In Portland, Allan Brettman reported adidas last week in federal court filed suit against N.Y.-based TRB Acquisitions for "selling sneakers and clothing that have branding that looks too similar" to its own. adidas is asking that TRB "be prevented from continued sale of its products that allegedly infringe on the Adidas and Reebok trademarks, that TRB pay Adidas damages as well as product profits, and attorney fees." The complaint also claimed that TRB products and adidas products are "being sold side-by-side at some retailers, including TJ Maxx" (Portland OREGONIAN, 11/14).

COLOR RUSHED: In Pittsburgh, Dan Majors wrote the NFL admitted that it "might have made a 'Color Rush' to judgment" with the uniforms for last Thursday's Bills-Jets game. The Jets' all-green and Bills' all-red uniforms caused problems for some colorblind viewers, but it "should not be a problem" for Color Rush games in the "foreseeable future." The Titans this Thursday will "wear powder blue against the gold" of the Jaguars. The other Color Rush games will feature the Panthers in blue against the Cowboys in white, and the Buccaneers in red against the Rams in yellow gold (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 11/14). ESPN’s Bomani Jones did not blame the NFL for “not forecasting” the notion of colorblind people having trouble watching the game. But he said, "The bad idea was just having two teams out there in the same colored jerseys. It’s not a good look.” ESPN’s J.A. Adande: “I saw a giant Christmas sweater” (“Around The Horn,” ESPN, 11/13).

STICK TO THE SCRIPT: In N.Y. Dave Caldwell noted the Univ. of Pittsburgh's "iconic helmet insignia," the Pitt Script, has "made a full comeback this fall." The script, which was "made famous" by College Football HOFers Dan Marino and Tony Dorsett, will "not be a part of all Pitt athletic apparel until next year, but merchandise now available with the script sells." Pitt said that sales at its team store and online ran 26% higher "this October compared with last October" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/15).
