FS K.C. Already Seeing Surge In Royals Demand, Could Add Spring Training Games

FS K.C. already is "experiencing overwhelming demand for advertising time" around the Royals next season, and the RSN is "considering airing" additional Spring Training games, according to Austin Alonzo of the K.C. BUSINESS JOURNAL. The RSN has "at least half of the inventory already sold" for Royals games in '16. The demand "probably will drive the network to increase its advertising rates." FS K.C. GM Jack Donovan said that any business that "bought advertising time on the broadcasts received a tremendous return on investment" in '15. Donovan expects the '16 season to be "big for the network and its advertisers." Donovan said that the RSN "may air" as many as 10 of the team's Cactus League games after broadcasting two this season. Alonzo wrote the move "would give the network more advertising inventory, but it will create planning issues." Donovan said that a decision on airing additional games "will be made within 30 days." Additionally, FS K.C. "plans to air Royals-related programs during the offseason." The RSN "plans to cover Royals FanFest on Jan. 29-30 and will air a preseason special in the spring" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/11).

TREATED LIKE ROYALTY: The Royals and Entercom-owned KCSP-AM yesterday announced a new four-year agreement through the '19 season. Financial terms were not disclosed. KCSP has been the broadcast home of the Royals in the K.C. area since '08. All regular season and postseason games, plus a minimum of 20 Spring Training games, will be broadcast each season, as well as as the weekly "Royals Hot Stove" show from January-March (Royals).
