MLB Franchise Notes: Rockies' Bridich Calls Reyes Situation "Unfortunate And Concerning"

Rockies GM Jeff Bridich said the recent arrest of SS Jose Reyes for allegedly assaulting his wife is an "unfortunate and concerning situation." Bridich: "It's tough to comment on that right now, because it's so early in the process. And right now it's being handled under the new policy between Major League Baseball and the players union. It's an ongoing investigation." Bridich added that he "has not talked to Reyes but has been in touch with Reyes' representatives." In Denver, Patrick Saunders notes Reyes is the Rockies' "highest-paid player," and is due $22M in both '16 and '17 (DENVER POST, 11/12).

GO BIG OR GO HOME: In Toronto, Bruce Arthur notes there have been "all sorts of reports" on what the Blue Jays will spend on payroll in '16. The club could stay at US$140M, "drop precipitously, maybe gently sink." Arthur: "Why wouldn’t you try to go bigger?" The team "has a one-year window with all these bats under contract, and it could be a great window." Arthur: "All you need is pitching, which costs money. And given the incredible, core-of-the-earth adoration that this team unearthed ... and all the millions that came with it, it would make sense to give incoming team president Mark Shapiro something more than the box [Alex] Anthopoulos operated in." Whether it is with an extra $10M or $20M, the Blue Jays should "go overpay for some arms" and win a title (TORONTO STAR, 11/12).

DON'T TELL SCOTTY: The AP's Steven Wine reports the Marlins' "feud with agent Scott Boras escalated" yesterday. The team said that he will be "left out of any future talks" regarding P Jose Fernandez' workload. Team President David Samson "pledged to exclude Boras after the agent complained about the Marlins' handling of another one of his clients," CF Marcell Ozuna. The dispute "perhaps reduces the already slim likelihood the Marlins will sign Fernandez to a long-term contract" (AP, 11/11).
