Mets' Sandy Alderson Skipping GM Meetings For Medical Procedure

Mets GM Sandy Alderson is not at this week's GM meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., as he remained in N.Y. to "undergo a medical procedure," according to Mark Feinsand of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Mets VP & Assistant GM John Ricco is there "in his stead." Ricco did not say whether Alderson's absence is "related to last week’s incident in which Alderson passed out during a press conference." Ricco: “He had a medical procedure that was scheduled for after the season ended and because of the playoff run it kept getting pushed and pushed. ... So he’s going to have it done this week" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/10). Mets Special Assistant to the GM J.P. Ricciardi said, "We'll be talking to him every day. This won't affect anything. We'll be in constant contact with him" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/10). On Long Island, Marc Carig notes Ricco and Ricciardi will be joined in Boca Raton by VP/Player Development & Amateur Scouting Paul DePodesta. Ricco said, "We're a pretty veteran group. We're capable of handling it" (NEWSDAY, 11/10).
