Pittsburgh Stadium Authority Proposing New Parking Garage Next To Heinz Field

The Pittsburgh Stadium Authority is "considering a proposal to build a parking garage for nearly 1,000 vehicles on the North Shore in the shadow of Heinz Field to make up for spaces lost to development," according to Mark Belko of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. Details are "contained in a request for proposals for architectural design services issued by the authority last month." Proposals "are due" Friday. The parking garage would be "built in Lot 1 closest to Heinz Field." Options include a "five-story garage with about 798 spaces or a six-story structure with about 957 spaces." The authority is "seeking to have the garage designed, constructed and operating" by April '17. Authority Exec Dir Mary Conturo said that the new garage "would net anywhere between 600 and 720 new spaces, taking into account those lost to the structure's footprint." Not all of Lot 1 -- "just a back portion near the football stadium -- would be used for the garage." Cost of the garage is "estimated at roughly" $13M (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 11/5).
