Hustle & Flow: Pete Rose Returning To Fox Sports' MLB Coverage In '16

Fox Sports expects Pete Rose “will return” for its MLB coverage in '16, according to Mike Dyer of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. Rose worked with Fox this season “in a variety of their baseball shows.” He “caused a stir on social media” when he left Fox after World Series Game 3 due to obligations that included “dinner and a speech and autograph signings” (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 11/4). Rose said of Fox' reaction to leaving after Game 3, “They were kind of disappointed I wasn’t there, and to be honest I was disappointed, too. But I’m the kind of guy who lives up to my contracts. You’ve got to honor your obligations.” Rose: “I would have loved to have stayed; I had a lot of fun working with those guys. But I already had previous things that were scheduled a long time ago. I had forgotten to put the World Series dates in when I signed for those, so I had to leave.” The AP's Tim Dahlberg wrote alongside Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez and Baseball HOFer Frank Thomas on Fox' coverage, Rose was “both knowledgeable and, at times, funny.” He came across “as the slightly off-kilter uncle everyone has.” Rose said of Thomas, “I love that guy. All I did was pick on him and he picked back at me. Some people on the Internet were saying we hated each other, but that was not the way it is. We’re good friends” (AP, 11/1).

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE BUBBLY? The N.Y. Daily News’ Pat Leonard said Fox "should be ashamed of itself" for conducting the "most sterile postgame interview ... I have ever seen" following the Royals' Game 5 win over the Mets. Leonard: "Where is the champagne? Where are the drapes over the lockers? I don’t understand. It felt like I was sitting in a hotel conference room at a company-mandated meeting. It was awful. I want to feel the emotion" (“Daily News Live,” SNY, 11/3).
