Despite Struggling On The Field, Ravens' Business Metrics Remaining Relatively Stable

Ravens officials said that despite the team's 2-6 record, indicators such as jersey sales, secondary-ticket sales and the stability of the PSL waiting list "suggest that fan grumbling hasn't translated into the sort of discontent that could significantly affect the team's financial fortunes," according to Campbell & Barker of the Baltimore SUN. After six playoff appearances in the previous seven seasons -- including a Super Bowl victory in '13 -- the team "believes it has accumulated enough good will to withstand a dry period." Ravens Senior VP/Ticket Sales & Operations Baker Koppelman said that since the "overwhelming number of tickets have already been sold, 'any tangible effects of a slow start have less impact at the box office.'" Campbell & Barker noted the PSL waiting list "has been holding steady at about 2,800 in recent years." But the Ravens said that they are "currently renewing the members," and that 95% "have committed so far." Two days before Sunday's home game against the Chargers, a few dozen tickets "were being offered in the upper corners and upper end zones on StubHub" for less than $60. That "bargain" price "could indicate a degree of fan frustration." Furthermore, Dick's Sporting Goods data showed that QB Joe Flacco's jersey at the end of last season "was the eighth-highest-selling in the league," but this year, it has fallen to 13th, while the Ravens as a team "were ranked 11th in jersey sales and are now 14th." But Ravens VP/Corporate Sales & Business Development Kevin Rochlitz said this year is "business as usual" with corporate partners (Baltimore SUN, 11/2).
