For the "second time in as many weeks," a visiting player at Edward Jones Dome was "injured after losing his footing when reaching the concrete surrounding the artificial turf," according to Joe Lyons of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. 49ers RB Reggie Bush on Sunday "was shoved out of bounds and slipped and fell after his cleats hit the concrete behind the 49ers’ bench." That came after Browns QB Josh McCown the previous week "skidded into the wall," injuring his shoulder. Rams coach Jeff Fisher said, "We’re going to do whatever we need to do to make sure that we don’t have an issue with it.’’ Fisher noted that the Dome "isn’t the only NFL stadium with the configuration and that he’s never warned his players about the concrete." He said it has "never been an issue before" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 11/3). The AP's R.B. Fallstrom noted the uncovered sections "are at least 15-20 yards past the sideline, allowing space for players, coaches, benches and training tables" (AP, 11/2). ESPN’s Tony Reali said, “Why does every NFL field have the most slippery surface on earth five feet away from the sideline?" He noted Bush's injury was "100% preventable.” The Denver Post's Woody Paige asked, “Why in the world would they allow concrete just beyond the sideline? ... They have to do something or they are going to lose that team to L.A.” (“Around the Horn,” ESPN, 11/2).
