Jordan Spieth

The PGA TOUR is alive and well on social media, with golfers using various platforms to keep their fans engaged with the action all season long. We used MVPindex data to take a look at how the TOUR pros use social media, what the most popular platforms are, who are the top ranked golfers, and what plays well for Rickie Fowler on Instagram.

Twitter is the most popular platform with 66% of TOUR professionals, followed by Facebook at 43%, and Instagram at 21%. Nike picks up the top two golfers on social media with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods holding the current number one and two spots respectively.

Under Armour’s Jordan Spieth holds the third place among TOUR professionals on social media after his epic season winning two majors and the FedEx Cup. Oakley scores big on social media with Bubba Watson, who is currently the fourth ranked golfer on social media. Ian Poulter, who’s Ian James Poulter Designs was the most mentioned apparel brand on the TOUR in 2014 due to his own promotional strategy, is holding up the 5th ranked spot on TOUR social media.

In the past month, #PresidentsCup was the most dominant hashtag used among PGA TOUR golfers at 110 times. #FedExCup holds down the second spot with 73 uses in the same time span. The third ranked hashtag? Well, naturally, it’s #golf.
