Texans' President Hopeful Of Mexico City Game Next Season After Recent Visit

Texans President Jamey Rootes believes "there’s a chance" the team could play a regular-season game in Mexico City next season, according to John McClain of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Rootes said, "We’ve always expressed that we have an interest in participating internationally as a road team. We’ve made it clear that we’re most interested in doing that in Mexico." McClain reports Texans Owner Bob McNair "does not want to play a home game away from NRG Stadium but would like to be the visiting team in an international series game, specifically in Mexico City." Rootes was "part of a Houston group that included political and business leaders making a recent trip to Mexico City." He said, "Mexico City is the most logical choice for a team like the Texans. We’d be a great ambassador for the league.” McClain notes the NFL "played a regular-season game in Mexico City" in '05 when the Cardinals defeated the 49ers "before a crowd of 103,467 at Estadio Azteca" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/16).
