Nice Short Game: NBC Sports Debuting New Short-Form Original Video Initiative

NBC Sports Digital is starting a new short-form original video initiative called "NBC Sports Digital Shorts." The effort will involve a mix of original productions as well as interviews, highlights, outtake clips and other content from NBC Sports' battery of live game rights. "NBC Sports Digital Shorts" will begin Sunday with the start of a six-part series "Sherman's Warriors" that will chronicle former Packers coach Mike Sherman as he now leads a high school team in Cape Cod, Mass. The digital shorts will be distributed through on the newly redesigned and video-focused NBCSports.com, NBC Sports Live Extra and various distribution partners such as Yahoo and Comcast/Xfinity. "In furthering NBC Sports Group's commitment to storytelling and NBCSports.com's focus on video, 'NBC Sports Digital Shorts' will help us provide users with more compelling, digital-focused content than ever before," said NBCSports.com Senior Dir of Video Brian Gilmore (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer). VARIETY's Todd Spangler reported NBC Sports "plans to launch about a half-dozen original series" in the next year. The series will debut immediately after NBC’s "SNF" telecast of Patriots-Colts, with "new episodes to be released on subsequent Sundays." Each episode "runs 6-8 minutes, accompanied by 1-2 minute behind-the-scenes clips" (VARIETY.com, 10/14).
