Trace Automatically Edits Your Surfing, Skiing Or Snowboarding Videos Down To The Best Moments
Trace Video is a new desktop application for Mac that takes POV camera footage and automatically removes all of the boring material, leaving users with action packed clips that they can instantly share on Facebook or upload to YouTube. The app is highly convenient for people looking to cut their surfing, skiing, or snowboarding videos down to the most climactic moments. Co-Founder David Lokshin simply wants people to capture as much footage as they want without worrying about the ensuing chore of editing.
“We want to make editing easier and allow athletes to see their results in minutes, rather than days. Our app has been tested and trusted by top athletes including Olympic Freeskier Joss Christensen and Pro Surfers Jordy Smith and Kalani Robb. The biggest pain-point with video is finding what’s relevant and editing it. Our App will take the time out of editing, allowing athletes to spend more time in the water and on the snow.”
The auto-editing process begins by simply dragging the files recorded from a device such as a GoPro into the app. Trace will then isolate the different points of action and create separate files for each of them. Most clips auto-edit within seconds, complete with added features such as color correction and overlaid performance statistics.
“Using the sensors inside of Trace, we know where a user’s most interesting moments are, whether they were on a lift or getting ready for a jump, or whether they were waiting for a friend or in the most critical part of your run. As a result we know exactly which parts of their footage to edit, and can help them find the exact moment they were looking for. For example, we can take 2 hours of surfing and condense it down to 2 minutes of highlights without any user intervention.”
The team at Trace has already noticed a behavioral difference from their beta testers. Whereas in the past athletes would constantly turn their cameras on and off in an attempt to get ahead of the editing process, Trace users simply leave their cameras on without any worry.
“Using a GoPro or being filmed by a friend shouldn’t be a pain. With Trace there’s no reason to leave the camera at home or to worry about what the camera is or isn’t capturing anymore. As we continue to develop, Trace will be able to take video from multiple angles, sync them together, combine clips, and much more.
