Indians Announce Series Of Promotions, Though Titles Change More Than Roles

The Indians yesterday announced a series of promotions in their Baseball Operations Department, naming GM Chris Antonetti President of Baseball Operations, Assistant GM Mike Chernoff GM and Dir of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey Assistant GM. The team said that the moves will not impact its business operations, as Indians Chair & CEO Paul Dolan will continue to assume those responsibilities related to Mark Shapiro's recent departure as Indians President (Indians). In Akron, Ryan Lewis notes the series of promotions "will not necessarily change the Indians’ baseball decision-making hierarchy." Antonetti "doesn’t see his new title as a change in his role." Rather, it is a "more accurate representation of how the front office has been operating." Chernoff and Falvey "have played an active role in the decision-making process." Antonetti said, "I’ll still be involved in day-to-day baseball operations." Lewis notes unlike when Shapiro was promoted from GM to President, Antonetti "will still only deal with the baseball side of things" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 10/7). In Ohio, Jeff Schudel notes Antonetti made it clear that he "won’t be able to buy his way to the postseason." Antonetti: "Our success is going to be largely predicated on the continued development of the players that we have here, both the guys that are currently on our major-league roster and players that will come up through our minor-league system. We’ll exhaust the trade market to find players that we think fit and will help us be better" (Willoughby NEWS-HERALD, 10/7).

THAT'S MY BOY: N.Y.-based WFAN-AM VP/Programming Mark Chernoff said of his son's promotion, "I'm a happy daddy. ... It's wonderful news and I believe well deserved. He loves the organization, they've been great to him and he's been very happy there" (NEWSDAY, 10/7).
