Wheels & Deals: Danica To Promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month During Cup Race

USA TODAY's Brant James reports NASCAR driver Danica Patrick will be a key part of GoDaddy's "annual pink-swathed launch of a Breast Cancer Awareness month campaign to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation." She will be "awash in pink garb" during Sunday's Sprint Cup Series AAA 400 at Dover Int'l Speedway "with her No. 10 Chevrolet and steering wheel." GoDaddy, her primary sponsor, will donate $50,000 to the NBCF and "match employee contributions up to $500 each" (USA TODAY, 10/2).

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: Dover Int'l Speedway during Sunday's race will mark the coming retirement of Jeff Gordon, as the 94-foot-tall "scoring pylon will be filled with nothing but 24s on the 24th lap." There will also be a “Thanks Jeff!” billboard at Turn 2, and the "souvenir program and fan guide for the AAA 400 will prominently feature Gordon on the cover." Dover Motorsports President & CEO Denis McGlynn: “We still consider him our hometown favorite due to his long-time relationship with Delaware-based DuPont” (DOVER POST, 10/1).

OLD-FASHIONED FUN: AUTOWEEK's Mike Larson noted Darlington Raceway on Labor Day weekend hosted the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles' Southern 500, and the track is "preparing to do it all over again" in '16. Much to the delight of track President Chip Wile, the event and its '70s theme was "spectacularly well received." Wile: "People just loved it. On race night, it was one of the top things trending on Twitter." TV partner NBC "got involved" with the event's vintage feel. Wile said of the theme, "We’re absolutely planning to do it again next year. We want it to become our tradition." He added that he would "like to see a full field of vintage-liveried cars, drivers in older-looking fire suits and crews in throwback uniforms" (AUTOWEEK.com, 10/1).
