Aaron Rodgers, State Farm Team Up Once Again For New Ad Debuting This Week

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers starting this week "is back in a new commercial" for State Farm, according to Lewis Lazare of the CHICAGO BUSINESS JOURNAL. Rodgers is seen "chatting with a football referee about the Discount Double Check at the top of the commercial," which is titled "Still On" and from State Farm agency of record DDB, Chicago. The ad "aims to elicit a laugh from viewers when it takes us inside a huddle where all refs are discussing a play they apparently didn't see." The crowd in the stands overhears the referees' scheme to cover up the fact that they "really don't know what happened," because the head ref "forgot to double check that his microphone was turned off." Rodgers "appears again at the end of the spot, but he still gets relatively short shrift." Instead, it is the referee who "becomes more the centerpiece of the new spot as it unfolds" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/29). Meanwhile, in K.C., Pete Grathoff noted Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles in Monday night's game against the Packers "scored a touchdown in the second quarter, then did the 'discount double check' move, before brushing it off." After the game, Rodgers "had a great response." He said, "State Farm appreciates it" (KANSASCITY.com, 9/28).
