Crosby, MacKinnon Work At Hometown Drive-Thru In Humorous Tim Hortons Spots

Tim Hortons' newest edition of commercials titled "Rookies," features Penguins C Sidney Crosby and Avalanche C Nathan MacKinnon "slinging coffees and doughnuts" at one of the QSR's drive-thrus, according to Kristen Odland of the CALGARY HERALD. The spots were "filmed over three hours in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, where both players are from." The pair "only took orders and didn’t actually have to pour coffee, butter bagels, or assemble breakfast sandwiches." MacKinnon: "People were pretty surprised to see us. It was fun. It was obviously staged. We were back in Cole Harbour, a pretty small area. Sid worked the drive thru and it was pretty cool" (CALGARY HERALD, 9/25). SPORTSNET.ca's Luke Fox wrote the ads are "an especially good look for Crosby, who often gets knocked for coming off too serious but double-doubles down on the goofiness here" (SPORTSNET.ca, 9/24). In Montreal, Stu Cowan wrote Tim Hortons has "done some pretty good TV ads with Crosby in the past, but the latest one is a classic." Cowan: "The TV ad is hilarious and kudos to whoever came up with the idea" (MONTREALGAZETTE.com, 9/24).
