Franchise Notes

Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group President of Sports Jeff Hunt yesterday said that the CFL Redblacks and Argonauts "will split the revenue and expenses associated with the Oct. 6 game at TD Place in Ottawa rather than at Rogers Centre in Toronto." In Ottawa, Gord Holder notes the availability of Rogers Centre for the Argos’ home game on Oct. 6 "could not be guaranteed" because the Blue Jays have "scheduling priority for the facility and may have to play an American League playoff wildcard game there that night." The Redblacks' season-ticket holders beginning today and lasting through Friday "would have a priority window to purchase seats." Tickets "will be discounted" by 30-40% from regular prices for the contest (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 9/23).

PHIL 'ER UP: The Phillies are on pace to finish the MLB season with the worst record, and incoming team President Andy MacPhail said the team will be "active this offseason" in free agency. However, in Philadelphia, Ryan Lawrence notes the Phillies need a GM to replace Ruben Amaro Jr. "before they enter the free-agent market." MacPhail said that he "has interviewed only one candidate so far, but expects the process to intensify in the week after the regular season ends" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 9/23). Meanwhile, the team announced interim manager Pete Mackanin will return for the '16 season. MLB Network's Ken Rosenthal said, "What is a little odd is that they don't have a GM yet. But Andy MacPhail basically has said they want this done and in place before a GM would even have to worry about it" ("MLB Now," MLB Network, 9/22).

OWL CITY: The Heat yesterday confirmed that they "will be holding their upcoming training camp" at FAU in Boca Raton. The move "continues a tradition of preseason work for the Heat in Palm Beach County, with previous training camps held at FAU, Palm Beach Atlantic University and what then was known as Palm Beach Community College" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 9/23).
