Jason Day became the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world following his win yesterday in the BMW Championships, and in Sydney, Matt Murnane cites two sports marketing experts as saying that Day's nee status "could be worth several million dollars to him in new endorsement and related deals in the future" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 9/21). Day currently endorses Concur, Lexus, NetJets, Rolex, RBC, TaylorMade-adidas Golf and Zurich Insurance (THE DAILY).

FEMININE MYSTIQUE: ADWEEK's Katie Richards wrote more marketing dollars are "ending up in the pockets of female sports figures." Serena Williams has "landed campaigns for Gatorade, Chase and Beats by Dre, plus many other brands," while UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has "teamed up with Carl's Jr., Reebok and MetroPCS." Meanwhile, U.S. women's national soccer team F Alex Morgan takes in an estimated $3M per year "from her pacts with Nike, Coca-Cola, McDonald's and others." Repucom Exec VP/Americas Peter Laatz "attributes advertisers' growing interest in female athletes to the potent purchasing power of women" -- who control 70-80% of consumer purchases -- "coupled with the growth of the women's activewear market" (ADWEEK.com, 9/20).

YOUNG GUNNERS: In Baltimore, Jeff Baker reported Under Armour has "signed sponsorship deals" with four young basketball players: Knicks G Jerian Grant, Raptors G Delon Wright, Clippers G Wesley Johnson and former Maryland G Dez Wells. Grant, Wright and Wells are all "right out of college," and all three "attended schools with Under Armour outfitting deals" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 9/18).

PEDAL TO THE MEDAL: In Richmond, Randy Hallman noted locally based Promotional Considerations will "handle sales of official gear" during the '15 UCI Road World Championships. Trailers will serve as "roadside shops that move to optimum sites" during the cycling event currently being held in Richmond. Promotional GM Jeff Marks said that he has "more than doubled his workforce for the Worlds" to around 46 employees (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 9/20).
