Monster Mash: Red Sox Look To Add 265 Seats To Fenway As Part Of $6.25M Upgrade

The Red Sox "hope to continue an expansion spree at historic Fenway Park, this time with a proposal to squeeze in 265 more seats," according to Donna Goodison of the BOSTON HERALD. The team is "proposing to add 10 rows with 232 seats at the east end of the right field pavilion, in front of the light tower, on a deck on the right field roof." An existing aisle "would be reconfigured, and 10 existing seats would be removed." In left field, a row of seats "would be added to the rear of the pavilion seats constructed in the 2007-08 off-season in front of the Coca-Cola sign and another light tower." Based on renderings filed with the city, 50 standing-room-only spots "would be lost, and 43 seats would be added." Other proposed improvements "include enlarging and upgrading a concession stand on the first base deck for more storage and prep areas, and adding a metal roof to shelter it." The Red Sox "put the improvement tab" at $6.25M. Team execs, "who are petitioning the city to extend the right and left field pavilions to increase the ballpark’s capacity, declined to discuss the proposed improvements" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/20).
