EA Sports Removes 13 Female Players From "FIFA 16" Due To NCAA Dispute

Canada women's national team D Kadeisha Buchanan, who is a junior at West Virginia Univ., is one of six players on the team "to be dropped from the new 'FIFA 16' soccer video game due to a dispute with the NCAA," according to Neil Davidson of the CP. The game "features Canada and 11 other women’s national teams for the first time." But EA Sports said that the Canadian players, as well as six Mexicans and a Spanish player, "had to be removed from the game or risk losing their collegiate eligibility." EA said that the collegiate players "will be replaced in the game by women who have played for the national teams in question." The new version of the game "is scheduled for release" on Tuesday. Buchanan had been "over the moon when news of the women’s inclusion was initially announced in late May" (CP, 9/17).
