Rockets Unveil Three Alternate Uniforms, Including Red "Clutch City" Jerseys

The Rockets last night unveiled three alternate uniforms, and the one "likely to draw the most attention is the red 'Clutch City' design," according to Paul Lukas of ESPN.com. The Clutch City uniform replaces the team's previous alternate, which "has since been mothballed, and joins the NBA's growing roster of 'pride' jerseys based on city nicknames," including the Trail Blazers' "Rip City" and the Pistons' "Motor City" designs. The Rockets also "will debut a new gray uniform (although the team is calling it 'silver')." Both the silver jersey and the "Clutch City" jersey "will have sleeves." The third new uniform has a "sleeveless black design, which will serve as a road alternate" beginning in '16-17 (ESPN.com, 9/15). In Houston, Jonathan Feigen noted the "Clutch City" alternate has "lettering from the championship years, including the lower-case t." Rockets F Donatas Motiejunas said, “I think it’s really good we’re going to represent the Clutch City, those two years they won the championship back-to-back. It’s going to be fun to wear them" (CHRON.com, 9/15). CBSSPORTS.com's Matt Moore wrote the silver uniform "may look better on the court than under the lights, but something has to be done with the checkerboard under-arm pattern." The red Clutch City uniform has "more of a 'let's take these out in the middle of a field and burn them after we establish a hazmat perimeter.'" The jerseys "are on sale now at the Rockets' team store" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/15).
