Audio Recognition Provider Gracenote Getting Into Sports Data With "DVR Extend"

Gracenote, a Tribune Media-owned provider of audio recognition and metadata products, is extending its reach into sports data and content with the debut of its On Entertainment "DVR Extend" offering for U.S. cable and satellite operators. The service involves using Gracenote's existing sports data business, buttressed earlier this year with the purchase of Infostrada Sports and SportsDirect Inc., to automatically adjust recordings of sporting events when they extend past listed broadcasting times. The product is aimed at taking advantage of increases in time-shifted viewing, and Gracenote execs said the company is in negotiations with several unnamed cable outfits to distribute the service. “Our global customers, including the world’s top cable and satellite operators, consumer electronics manufacturers and automakers, are constantly looking for ways to deliver greater value to their users by improving experiences around compelling content such as live sports,” said Gracenote GM/Video Rich Cusick. “We believe features like DVR Extend are the exact type of innovation that will differentiate them from their competitors.”
