A planned football game between Baylor and a Pac-12 opponent in Australia next season "is no longer an option," according to John Werner of the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD. But Baylor AD Ian McCaw said that he will "continue to explore options for international play in future years." McCaw: “This came down to a matter of scheduling preferences that didn’t work out." McCaw added that Baylor’s "most immediate nonconference scheduling priority is to set a 2020 game against a SEC opponent at a neutral site in Texas." Cal was a "potential opponent" for Baylor in Australian, but Cal already has a "demanding 2016 nonconference schedule that includes Notre Dame, UTEP and Texas." Baylor also "hadn’t yet received a waiver from the NCAA to play an international game in August 2016 before the regular season college football schedule begins" (WACOTRIB.com, 9/9). Meanwhile, in Austin, Suzanne Halliburton noted Baylor has been "criticized nationally for playing a weaker non-conference schedule." Baylor is not "set to play a Power 5 team in non-conference" until '17, when it "starts a home-and-home series against Duke." Baylor's non-conference slate this year includes SMU, Lamar and Rice (STATESMAN.com, 9/8).
