Daytona Rising In The Homestretch, Expected To Be Done Shortly After New Year

Daytona Int'l Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said the facility's Daytona Rising renovation has "about 130 days to go" before its completion, according Godwin Kelly of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL. DIS primary contractor Barton Malow Co. "had 600 workers on site" last week to finish the project, and the speedway's tower is now "the primary focus." Project Dir Len Moser said, "We are down to the granular level now." He added that the tower "should be fully glassed-in by the end of this month, then the finishing work can begin in earnest." Chitwood said, "The structure is all in place. Now we're working on the finishes, whether it is the concourse areas or the tower.” Kelly noted there is also "the matter of finishing the installation of grandstand seats." The “new Daytona” will have "101,000 premium seats for race fans." Barton Malow is "working with three Daytona Rising founding partners with the design and execution" of fan entrances. Chitwood: "The next big change you will see are colors when the sponsors start working on their injectors. The property will have a new look when those details and finishes are done.” Kelly noted Toyota, Chevrolet and Florida Hospital "have signed on as fan injector sponsors." Moser: "We are helping them with their branding and construction needs unique to their areas. We are sitting down with the sponsors and the Speedway to see what they want to do to promote their brands" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 9/5).
