In Bid To Grow Event, NFL Moving Super Bowl Media Day To Monday Primetime

The NFL is officially shifting Super Bowl Media Day from its traditional Tuesday morning start time to Monday night, with the first Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade to be held Feb. 1 at SAP Center in San Jose ahead of Super Bowl 50. The event will begin at 8:00pm ET. Fans will be allowed to sit in the stands of the arena, where they will receive gift bags including a radio to tune into NFL Network coverage of the event. There also will be musical performances and player/cheerleader appearances (NFL). In L.A., Chuck Schilken writes other than the change from its traditional Tuesday-afternoon slot to Monday-night primetime, the "wild and wacky event we've all grown to know and love doesn't sound like it's going to change all that much" (L.A. TIMES, 9/2). CBSSPORTS.com's Will Brinson wrote Super Bowl Media Day usually is "kind of tough for fans to watch because of the timing involved." But fans now will "get the full experience of getting to watch a lot of veteran sports reporters elbow out dudes dressed in super hero costumes to ask inane questions about what players' AIM screen names were when they were growing up" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/1).
