It's All Relative: DeAndre Jordan Leaves Agents After Free Agency Flip-Flop

Clippers C DeAndre Jordan has "parted ways with his representatives at Relativity Sports," telling agents Dan Fegan and Jarinn Akana that he "was moving 'in another direction,'" according to a source cited by Broderick Turner of the L.A. TIMES. Jordan informed his agents of the decision a "few days after the NBA fined the Clippers $250,000" for violating rules designed to keep teams from "offering players unauthorized business or investment opportunities." The Clippers made the violations "during their pitch" to Jordan on July 2, as they "apparently discussed marketing opportunities that the NBA said included a third-party endorsement deal with Lexus." Jordan is responsible for paying Relativity the 4% "it earned when he re-signed" with the Clippers instead of the Mavericks in July (L.A. TIMES, 9/1). YAHOO SPORTS' Eric Freeman suggested that Jordan "felt pushed into the Mavericks deal" by Fegan, who has a "longstanding relationship" with Mavs Owner Mark Cuban. Freeman: "The smart money said that Jordan would not retain Fegan's services for long after his reversal." Jordan's new four-year deal "takes away some of the urgency" to find new representation (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 8/31).
