Nothing Else Matters: Ronda Rousey Files To Trademark Popular Catchphrase

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has "filed for a trademark" for the phrase "Do Nothing Bitch," as well as the shortened version "DNB," according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. Rousey popularized the phrase when she mentioned it "on an episode of 'UFC 190 Embedded'" prior to her Aug. 1 win over Bethe Correia. The trademarks were made by Rowdy Ronda Inc., which has also filed for "three trademarks to the phrase 'Armbarnation,' nine trademarks to 'Rowdy Ronda Rousey' and two more for her name with the intent to use it on apparel." Rousey two weeks ago announced on Twitter "that she would be selling a limited edition 'Don't Be A D.N.B' shirt, which featured Rousey sitting on a bed." The website where the shirt was available had initial expectations "to sell 1,000 shirts in two weeks," but it will have sold "more than 50,000 shirts" when the sale ends on Friday. Proceeds from the T-shirt sale are "going to a mental health charity" (ESPN.com, 8/20).
