MLB Once Again Avoids Several Potential NFL Conflicts With World Series Schedule

MLB yesterday released its schedule for the ’15 postseason, with the slate arriving nearly a month earlier than it did a year ago. Similar to last year, the World Series will begin on a Tuesday, again avoiding TV conflicts with CBS' "Thursday Night Football" on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, and ESPN's "MNF" on Nov. 2. The World Series will begin on Oct. 27 in the AL champion’s city, followed by games on Oct. 28, Oct. 30-31, and Nov. 1, 3 and 4, if necessary. Should the World Series go at least five games, it will face a head-to-head conflict with NBC’s "SNF" broadcast of Packers-Broncos on Nov. 1. MLB had previously employed a Wednesday-start schedule for the World Series from ’07-13. The league last played a November World Series game in ’10, and former MLB Commissioner Bud Selig had said at the time he had hoped to avoid doing so again. However, November games this season were seen as all but inevitable after MLB scheduled the '15 season to begin on April 5, several days later than a typical Opening Day. The postseason will start on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the AL Wild Card game on ESPN. TBS will carry the NL Wild Card Game, as well as the rest of the NL playoffs. Fox, FS1 and MLB Network will share the AL Division Series, and Fox and FS1 will divide the ALCS. Fox for the 18th time will air the World Series.
